You've come down from New Plymouth. What made you choose UC?

I chose UC for its national reputation and campus culture. I attended a couple of open days and really loved the chill vibe on campus. It was warm and inviting, and all the people were really nice. I also liked that Christchurch is a growing city with a lot of character. I'm stoked to be here, it’s turned out to be an awesome place to study.

What do you enjoy most about your programme?

We learn a lot of specific knowledge which I enjoy, but what I like best is the way they teach us how to think. We learn problem-solving skills and how to look at things in different ways. It's given me a new outlook and a deeper understanding of how things works. We do a lot of real-world projects too, which makes everything more interesting and rewarding.

Have any opportunities jumped out at you?

I joined a club called the Investment Society. They run a workshop on investing and after that you can do a 10-hour course where you learn the ropes of Bloomberg, a massive trading software programme. The Trading Room is awesome. It set up like a mini stock exchange with dual screen computers and special keyboards. I can’t wait to do some of their competitions!

What else have you been up to on campus?

I'm treasurer for UC Football, which has been a great way to combine my studies and my passion for sport. The clubs at UC are awesome and the events are super fun too. From barbecues with mates to live gigs and bands, there’s always a good time to be had.

"UC offers a great study-life balance that gives you a little taste of everything. The environment is awesome and the sheer amount of opportunities is amazing."

Have you changed much since you started at UC?

I’ve definitely grown up and become more independent. It’s been really cool meeting people far from home, from all different walks of life. The culture at UC is really inclusive, not judgemental or cliquey. Everyone just does their own thing and nobody minds.

What three words would you pick to describe UC?

Opportunity, adventure and fun. UC offers a great study-life balance that gives you a little taste of everything. The environment is awesome and the sheer amount of opportunities is amazing. From overseas study trips and exchanges, to social events and clubs, everything is right here for you.
